Hans van Halteren, lecturer at the āInformation sciencesā course from the Faculty of Arts, has been working on a method that will help students prepare the course materials for class. This will improve students knowledge of the subject during class, which results in more student involvement in the class. Weekly preparation will also lead to less preparation time for the final exam and hopefully better results. Halteren showed us the learning modules he created that allow students to learn and practice the course materials in small doses.
āThe idea is that all information, homework and assignments can be found in the modulesā

The goal of the learning modules is to let students study the materials independently. They also have to answer questions about it. There are four subjects in every period. At the end of this period, at least three of these subjects have to be completed for 80%. The learning modules are big, sometimes containing over 80 items for a subject. This way, the students will really master the methods to ask and answer questions.
Every subject is in a logical order based on learning materials, but the student is free to determine their own order as long as they have finished and checked ff enough modules before the deadline. Checking the modules off is a part of the exam requirements and thus mandatory. At the end of every subject there will also be an exam exercise about the subject. The exam will be composed of questions similar to the ones in the exam exercises.
